Discover what you can do on your weekend away in Barcelona

Like every month, we’re back on the Gloading blog with fresh ideas, plans, and places you won’t want to miss on your Spanish adventure. September is an especially exciting month, and we’ll tell you why very soon! For now, let’s jump into this month’s mini-guide.

We’ve already explored Oviedo, Valencia, San Sebastián, Lanzarote, Madrid, Gijón, and Pamplona, so if you missed any of those, you can check out on the links. But today, it’s all about one of Spain’s most beautiful cities: here’s our mini-guide for your weekend away in Barcelona!

The classic go-to: Bombas de la Barceloneta

A bomba is a classic tapa from Barcelona, especially famous in the Barrio de la Barceloneta. It’s a large, round croqueta made with mashed potato, filled with seasoned minced meat (usually pork or beef), then breaded and fried until golden and crispy.

  • Tip: Try La Cova Fumada. It’s a small, family-run bar, and it’s said to be the place where the bomba was born. There’s no sign on the door, but it’s always packed.

The can’t miss-spot: La Sagrada Familia

Even if you’ve seen it in photos, stepping inside La Sagrada Familia is something else. The scale, the detail, and the coloured light pouring through the stained glass… it’s a landmark for a reason. Still unfinished, but already unforgettable!

The walker’s dream: Bunkers del Carmel

If you’re up for a bit of an uphill walk, the Bunkers del Carmel offer one of the best views in all of Barcelona. You’ll see the sea, the rooftops, and the mountains all at once.

  • Tip: Grab a drink, find a good spot, and watch the sunset surrounded by locals!

The foodie haven: Calçots (even out of season)

Calçots are a typical plato catalán made from long, sweet green onions that are grilled over an open flame until carred on the outside. Usually, they’re eaten in winter during a calçotada, but a few places serve them year-round!

  • Tip: Book a table at Can Vador. They’ve got seasonal calçot menus!

Anything else you’d suggest for your weekend away in Barcelona?

Barcelona is one of those cities that never disappoint. The food, the architecture, or simply the energy of the city, are things that you definitely should experience at least once. Hopefully this mini-guide for your weekend away in Barcelona has given you a few ideas for your trip. Stick around, as September is packed with exciting things!

I’m deeply in love with Spain—take me there!
