You don’t need teaching experience to apply, but you do need to meet the program requirements:
We’re also looking for people who are open-minded, adaptable, and excited to experience a new culture, connect with their students, and make the most of their time in Thailand.
Meeting these requirements or completing an interview doesn’t guarantee a placement. We assess each application individually and match suitable candidates with schools based on their profile, qualifications, and school needs and availability.
Have extra experience? Great!
These can give your application a boost:
No. A TEFL certification isn’t required to join the program, but it can strengthen your application, help you feel more confident in the classroom, and may qualify you for a higher minimum salary.
If you don’t already have one, you can add our 140-hour online TEFL course to your program for an additional fee.
Yes! You can apply while finishing your degree. You’ll just need a document from your university confirming your expected graduation date and degree.
As you move through the selection and placement process, we’ll ask you for a few documents and materials to help us get to know you and build your profile for potential Host Schools.
You’ll need:
We’ll provide you with the specific requirements and instructions for each item when it’s time to prepare or submit it.
You can start getting them ready, but don’t send anything until we ask for it.
We’ll guide you through the process and let you know what we need and when we need it. Once an item is requested, it becomes mandatory and must be provided to continue with the selection and placement process.
Want to get ahead? Having your materials ready in advance can help keep your application moving smoothly — just hold onto them until we ask you to submit them.
Once you’re accepted, we’ll work to find the right match for your profile.
You can share your preferences for location, age group, or school type, and we’ll take them into account where possible. However, we match candidate profiles and qualifications with each school’s specific needs, so preferences can’t be guaranteed.
You’ll receive the details of your placement before you travel.
Placements are available across Thailand, particularly in Central, Northern, Eastern, and Northeastern Thailand.
You can share your preferred locations, but flexibility is key. Popular destinations such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Krabi have more limited availability, so we can’t guarantee a specific place.
Yes, you can request it. Apply at the same time and let us know you’d like to be placed together.
We’ll do our best to find a placement that works for both of you, but you’ll need to be flexible about location, age group, or school type.
You can request to have other international teachers or Gloading participants nearby. We’ll take it into account when matching you, although it can’t always be guaranteed.
Participants starting in May are encouraged to stay for a full year. A year-long placement gives you more time to settle into your school, build meaningful relationships with your students and community, and make the most of your experience in Thailand.
Program length may vary for other intakes depending on school needs, visa requirements, and placement availability.
Your main role will be to help Thai students build their confidence using English. Depending on your background, skills, and school placement, this could include English classes as well as subjects taught in English, such as Math, Science, or Computer Science.
Being open to teaching different subjects can give you access to a wider range of school placements and increase your chances of finding a placement that matches your profile.
No! Previous teaching experience isn’t required.
What matters most is being enthusiastic, adaptable, patient, and ready to learn.
Want to feel even more prepared before you arrive? You can add our online TEFL course and build your teaching skills before heading to Thailand.
Expect a full-time 35–40 hour workweek, Monday to Friday.
This usually includes around 20–25 classroom hours per week, plus lesson planning, grading, faculty meetings, presentations, school events, and extracurricular activities.
Your exact schedule and workload will depend on your school.
Not at all! You don’t need to speak Thai to join the program or teach English.
You’ll learn some basic Thai during orientation to help you navigate everyday life, connect with locals, and settle into your new home.
The Teach in Thailand Program Fee is €2,110.
You don’t pay anything when you apply or interview. Payment only begins once you pass Gloading’s screening process and are accepted into the placement matching stage.
The Program Fee is paid in two stages:
Your €500 Commitment Fee forms part of the total Program Fee — it is not an additional charge.
If you choose this option, the TEFL fee is paid at the same time as your Commitment Fee, once you pass Gloading’s screening:
€500 Commitment Fee + €385 TEFL Course = €885
The remaining €1,610 is then due once you receive and accept your school placement.
Your total cost with the TEFL course is €2,495.
The TEFL course is 100% online and self-paced, so you can complete it around your own schedule. You’ll have up to six months from enrolment to finish the four modules, although most students complete the course within 10–12 weeks. If you have more time to dedicate to it, it’s possible to complete it even sooner.
You’ll also have access to dedicated tutor support throughout the course, as well as assistance from the Customer Experience team whenever you need it.
Course length: 140 hours
Format: Online & self-paced
Time to complete: Up to 6 months
Additional fee: €385
Unfortunately, at the moment we don’t offer any payment plans.
Your Program Fee includes:
If you’re accepted into the program but we aren’t able to provide you with a placement, your €500 Commitment Fee will be refunded.
If you receive a placement and decide not to accept it, the Commitment Fee is non-refundable.
You’ll earn at least 30,000 THB per month, paid directly by your Host School or authorized employer.
Your minimum salary depends on your qualifications and, in some cases, what you teach:
Thailand has a relatively affordable cost of living, but how much you’re able to spend, travel, or save will depend on your location and lifestyle.
*Degrees focused on Curriculum Development, Education Policy, Education Leadership, or Education Administration don’t qualify for the 35,000 THB salary level.
Yes! Rent-free accommodation is included in your placement.
Depending on your school, accommodation may be provided directly or covered through a housing allowance, so your rent won’t come out of your regular salary.
You’ll usually be responsible for utilities, and you’ll receive full accommodation details once you’re placed.
The Thai school year generally runs across two semesters:
Your exact start and finish dates will depend on your intake and school placement.
If you’re joining the May intake, being open to staying for the full school year can give you access to a wider range of placement opportunities, as many schools prefer teachers who can commit to both semesters.
Think professional, comfortable, and Thailand-friendly.
Thai schools tend to have traditional expectations around professional appearance, so shoulders and knees should generally be covered. Having tattoos or piercings won’t stop you from teaching in Thailand, but you may be asked to cover visible tattoos or remove certain piercings while teaching or attending school activities.
Outside of school, you can express your personal style more freely.
And yes, breathable clothes are your friend!
Thailand is a popular destination for international teachers and is generally considered safe.
You’ll receive practical safety and cultural guidance during orientation, plus 24/7 emergency assistance throughout your placement.
We’ll guide you through it step by step.
You’ll receive clear instructions, document reviews, and guidance on when to apply once your placement is confirmed.
Wait until you’ve received your placement, orientation dates, arrival instructions, and our guidance on when to book.
We also recommend waiting for your visa approval before booking a non-refundable flight.
Check the latest travel health recommendations for Thailand and speak with your doctor before travelling.
Some vaccinations require multiple doses, so don’t leave this one until the week before your flight.
We’ll be ready for you.
If you arrive within the designated arrival window, you’ll be picked up from the airport and taken to your orientation accommodation in XXX, where you’ll spend four nights before the program begins.
After orientation, transportation to your assigned school will also be arranged.
Your experience in Thailand begins with a 4-day, 3-night in-person orientation designed to help you feel prepared for both life and work in the country.
You’ll take part in professional teacher training, Thai language sessions, and cultural workshops, while getting practical advice on settling in, navigating everyday life, and preparing for your new school. It’s also your first chance to meet other international teachers and start building your community in Thailand.
Your orientation includes:
The remaining two dinners are at your own expense, giving you some free time to head out, explore, and discover the local food scene.
After orientation, you’ll travel to your teaching location and get ready to begin life at your new school.
Easily! Thailand has buses, trains, domestic flights, taxis, and plenty of local transport options.
And yes, you’ll probably take a tuk-tuk at some point. Just agree on the fare before you hop in.
